The history of Madaba pre-dates the arrival of the Arab invaders which came from the Arabian peninsula in the 7th century, supplanted the local population and intrduced, by force, a new religion.
In addition, Moslems generally are not interested in historical events which pre-date the advent of Islam. Therefore it is not surprising that the local population has no interest in the excavations at Madaba.
